Francis Line
( 30 items )
It has been quite some time since the names of Francis and Helen Line were household words. But in the 1940's and 1950's quite a few people knew their names. Francis and Helen began making films in earnest in 1938 or so, and continued well into the 1960's. These films are pure Americana. Travelogues in the original sense, as pioneered by Burton Holmes. Some of his films have been lost, but many remain. We are dedicated to preserving this small part of history- the films of Francis and Helen Line.
Francis Line, the film maker, was the second son of Charles Smith Line. In 1959 C.S. Line wrote his memoirs. Some of the articles listed below are excerpts from these memoirs. Occasionally, we have done a bit of editing to clarify his intent(as we have surmised it). The document he wrote is essentially a first draft, and as such, is a bit unpolished. We hope you will enjoy this fascinating look into America as he knew it.
